My Experiences

Thanksgiver Schweiz

During my school years, I had the privilege of volunteering at Thanksgiver Schweiz, a local food bank in Basel. I took on backroom duties, organized food crates, and assisted in distributing essentials, helping to feed hundreds of people in need. This experience has deepened my commitment to serving my community, and I look forward to continuing to make an impact in the future.

International Relations Academy

In a Georgetown course on International Relations, I witnessed the influence of both historical and contemporary viewpoints on diplomacy through group simulations. Additionally, visits to the US Department of State highlighted the significance of diverse perspectives in shaping foreign policy.

South Korea - DMZ

During our trip to Seoul in the Spring of 2024, we visited the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), the heavily fortified border that has separated and South Korea since 1953. The stories I heard there revealed a heartbreaking narrative of the human toll of this conflict, featuring families torn apart, grandparents and parents who left loved ones behind without ever hearing from them again.

Istanbul

Istanbul is a city that is special for me, both my parents are from this fascinating place. Whether I'm visiting family or sharing its wonders with friends from the U.S., the experience is always unforgettable. From the vibrant colors of the Grand Bazaar to the stunning architecture of Hagia Sophia and the beauty of the Blue Mosque, I love discovering every corner of this historic city.

Phil*Mart for Ukranian Refugees

During the summer of 2022, I volunteered for helping Ukrainian refugees in Basel and learned to appreciate how fortunate I am, and every day I was inspired by the resilience of the families I met. Witnessing the devastating impact of war made my resolution clearer about pursuing a career in global service.

A People's History of War in America

I completed a course at Brown University titled "A People's History of War in America," where I explored how the nation's violent history influences its current issues. I was particularly moved by the injustices experienced by minorities during the Civil Rights Movement.

South Korea - Busan

Visiting the U.N. Memorial Cemetery in Busan had a deep impact on me. Observing the graves of Turkish soldiers who fought in Korea, many of whom perished far from their homeland, fostered a personal bond with the Korean people and their struggles. It brought to mind the sacrifices made by my own ancestors, highlighting our shared human experiences of loss and hope.

My pets

My story would not be complete without my two rescue cats, Olivia and Alice, who bring joy and mischief into my life. Between my studies, I love to play with them, even when they decide to climb over me or my desk in their quest to grab my pens.
